Today, the solar panel is no longer a luxury, in fact, it is an excellent financial decision!

Households equipped with solar panels are multiplying like mushrooms, but it is important to clarify when, for whom, with what costs and returns it is worthwhile to install a household solar panel system. We talked about this with Balázs Kurucz, energy engineer and auditor, certified mechanical engineer, company manager of YUXTA Kft.

We can see solar panels on the roofs of more and more residential buildings and condominiums, and even new applications for residential solar panels will be launched by the end of 2021, so there is no longer any question that solar systems installed on family houses are no longer just an environmentally friendly solution for supplying electricity to households, but a profitable or direct and are considered profitable investments.

Thanks to the Home Renovation Support for families, which was launched this year, the chance of alternative energy supply for households increased significantly, and many decided to develop a solar panel system. But when is the solar panel a good and useful decision?

Among other things, the solar panel is very favorable, as it provides immediate coverage for part of the energy consumption.

Since this immediately available energy does not need to come from distant power plants, the so-called transport with transit losses, thus typically improving the energy efficiency of the household and thus the economy. In the case of an average household, this means that the consumption is approx. 25-30% is used immediately inside the house, and the "excess" can be fed into the electrical system. So, the more solar panels a house has, the less, mainly polluting, energy needs to be fed into the electrical system from other sources.

The good news is that the European Union has also committed itself to reducing the carbon footprint, thanks to the support programs and applications that are still available today.

The target groups are primarily households, as this is the easiest and cheapest way - with the smallest investments and without major network improvements - to reduce the carbon footprint.

In addition, it can be said that even the development direction of the near future clearly points towards the development of households' own battery systems. These - still expensive - home storage capacities will allow us to produce energy for several days, and with the rise of electric cars, we can also use the energy produced to power our cars. Another advantage is that, depending on their size, they also provide the possibility of supplying households autonomously in the event of minor or major power outages.

As a certified company, Yuxta B Corporation considers environmental awareness important and only implements investments that really reduce the carbon footprint and actually save energy.

When is it not worth installing a solar system?

Installing a solar panel system is a complex process, and it is advisable to always contact a professional. When a solar system pays for itself depends on countless things, but the most important conditions are the following:

  • property location
  • available, adequate network capacity, availability of a standard measuring point
  • shadow effect (trees, neighboring houses, etc.)

According to the current regulations, we can only enter the balance settlement system until 2023, which is otherwise exceptionally favorable for consumers. For those joining after the year 2023, there is already a new type, the so-called a gross type of accounting is to be expected, in which the price of the produced and purchased energy will differ from each other, and this will obviously move the economy in a more unfavorable direction, and this is when household battery systems, which are currently only found in the index, will play a really big role.

It is important that our solar panel system implemented in the balance sheet should always be adjusted to current consumption or future developments, as this represents the economic optimum. It is not worth installing a system much larger than our consumption, since only the energy produced that matches the amount of energy used is "worth a lot", while in general it can be said that the investment costs per 1 kW of smaller systems are higher, so they bring a slower return.

The segmentation of the building's roof structure and the surrounding shadows can also increase the costs. After all, if we are talking about a partially shaded roof, then the professionals have to install additional devices that make the realization of the project somewhat more expensive.

How big a system does an average household need?

The electricity consumption of an average household - if it does not use electric heating and has no extra consumption (e.g. jacuzzi, infrared sauna, swimming pool, etc.) - can be estimated at around 3-5 thousand kWh/year, but this can vary from household to household, so it is always necessary to check the specific household .

How much does the complete construction and installation of a solar panel system cost for an average household?

The gross cost of the solar panel system above, sized for average consumption, can be put on average between HUF 1.5-2.5 million, which consists of the following:

  • administration, planning, licensing, insurance
  • implementation
  • built-in devices (this is about 2/3 of the total cost)
  • Startup
  • compliance with warranty conditions

Many people cannot afford to pay HUF 1.5-2.5 million to upgrade their energy needs. What grants and applications can be used for solar panel installation?

The home renovation program of the State Treasury is currently available to the public (until the end of 2022), which covers 50% of the total solar investment amount for those entitled to it, up to a value limit of HUF 6 million. Thanks to this support, the payback of installed solar systems can be brought in for up to 4-5 years, which is considered very good. If we take into account that electricity prices are expected to increase significantly in the future, this value may develop even more favorably.

In addition, a 100% non-refundable subsidy program was announced in November 2021, with the help of which households with an average income can use this service, which until now did not have the opportunity to do so.
